Roseanne Barr blasts Israel as 'Nazi state'. Emmy-award winning comedienne Roseanne Barr, herself of Jewish ancestry, has nonetheless blasted Israel for its recent attacks on Hamas targets in the Gaza Strip, calling Israel a "Nazi state" bent on torturing "the Jewish soul." "The destruction of the Jews in Israel has been assured with this inhuman attack on civilians in Gaza," Barr writes on her blog. "Exactly as its Nazi mentors did to the Jews of Warsaw, Israel now bombs innocent civilians who have been imprisoned in concentration camps in Gaza!" She continues, "The Zionists look German! The Palestinians look like the Jews of Poland! The Jewish people have destroyed themselves in Gaza." Her venom over the attacks, however, has not been reserved only for the Israeli state, but stings American Christians, too. Her blog posts a picture of a bloodied and bandaged boy reportedly wounded in the recent days' airstrikes with the caption, "This is what the pro-life, right wing, neo con, evangelical, Zionist, Bible-banging Americans really mean when they say: 'America is a Christian nation,' or when they say: 'Israel must defend itself,' or when they say: 'The Bible is the Word of God.'" ... No sign of global warming in U-S weather today. CHICAGO- The weather has the upper hand in northern Illinois, and Las Vegas has received record snowfall. More than 100 flights have been canceled at Chicago's two main airports because of a storm that forecasters say is bringing heavy snow and, in some places, ice. The National Weather Service expects the storm to drop up to 14 inches of snow in parts in the region through Friday. A combination of snow and sleet is forecast for the Chicago area, with about a foot possible. The West has been in the grip of a pre-winter storm for a couple of days. The storm has dumped snow or rain and snarled travel in Washington, Nevada, much of Southern California and parts of northern Arizona. Around 18 inches of snow is on the ground in Flagstaff, Arizona. Authorities there say major highways are open but are advising drivers to be careful of packed snow and ice. ... Read More: http://www.onenewsnow.com/Headlines/Default.aspx?id=359744
CIA Using Viagra to Bribe Afghan Warlords. The CIA has developed a novel incentive to gain cooperation and support in Taliban-plagued Afghanistan - handing out libido-enhancing Viagra pills to targeted village patriarchs, according to a report in the Washington Post. "Whatever it takes to make friends and influence people - whether it's building a school or handing out Viagra," said one agency operative with multiple tours in that war torn country. Standard incentives - such as money, jewelry and cars - are too ostentatious, noted another operative to the Post. "If you give an asset $1,000, he'll go out and buy the shiniest junk he can find, and it will be apparent that he has suddenly come into a lot of money from someone," said Jamie Smith, a veteran of CIA covert operations in Afghanistan. "Even if he doesn't get killed, he becomes ineffective as an informant because everyone knows where he got it." ... Expert on Bible, Sabbath dies at 70. Biblical scholar Dr. Samuele Bacchiocchi, best known for his teachings on how Sabbath observance shifted toward Sunday worship in much of Christendom, died yesterday at his Michigan home at the age of 70 after a two-year battle with fourth-stage liver cancer. The retired professor from Andrews University in Berrien Springs, Mich., passed away shortly after midnight Saturday, surrounded by his three children and wife, who would have marked their 47th wedding anniversary today. "We are very grateful that we could all be together at this time and believe that it is fitting that God chose the Sabbath day, the day that he loved most and spent his life preaching and writing about, to be the day that he entered into his final earthly rest," his family said. "We take comfort in the fact that the next time he will open his eyes he will see his Lord and Savior, and that we will be reunited with him in heaven. His incredible journey here on earth has come to an end, but may we continue his legacy until Jesus returns!" ... Read More:

How did Obama get elected? A new documentary demonstrates how uninformed some Barack Obama voters are about American politics and the recent presidential campaign. How did Obama get elected? Documentary filmmaker John Ziegler interviewed a dozen Obama voters as they left the polls on Election Day "to see what they learned from the media coverage of the campaign." Ziegler says the twelve "were chosen for their apparent intelligence/verbal abilities and willingness to express their opinions to a large audience." He has posted a video of the interviews on the website HowObamaGotElected.com. Here is a small portion what the Obama voters had to say when asked some basic political questions. Although nearly all of the Obama voters interviewed did not know who the Democratic leaders of the House and Senate were, they did know that the Republican Party spent $150,000 on Sarah Palin's wardrobe and also knew that she was the one candidate with a pregnant teenage daughter. ... Prop. 8 opponents rejecting democracy. According to a conservative media watchdog, the mainstream media is completely ignoring a wave of quasi-fascism that has descended upon California and several other states by radical homosexual activists who don't respect the will of the people. Brian Fitzpatrick, senior editor at the Culture and Media Institute, recently wrote a column called "Crouching Fascism, Hidden Media." He says on November 4, a majority of voters in liberal California approved Proposition 8, a constitutional amendment declaring that only marriages between a man and a woman are valid in the state. But he points out that militant homosexuals have not respected that decision and have vandalized property, threatened people, and mailed white powder to Mormon churches. Fitzpatrick calls that "fascism." ... Read More: http://www.onenewsnow.com/Culture/Default.aspx?id=327820
German home schooling family seeks asylum in U.S. A home school advocate is helping a German family who is seeking asylum in the United States. Mike Donnelly is a staff attorney with the Home School Legal Defense Association (HSLDA) and says home schoolers in Germany are under great persecution. He also notes many German families home school in secret, but if they get caught, they can face fines in the thousands of dollars, lose their personal property, get thrown in jail, or even have their children taken from them. One family, according to Donnelly, has suffered so much persecution that the HSLDA is now helping them seek asylum in the United States. The Romeike family was faced with thousands of dollars in fines and the potential loss of their five children if they did not comply with the demands of German social workers who wanted to put their children in government-run schools. ... Free Enterprise Did NOT Cause the Market Meltdown. In 1995, under Bill Clinton, things got even worse. Tougher CRA ratings were issued. Banks now had to demonstrate that they were investing more money in poor, higher risk neighborhoods if they wanted federal approval to merge. Banks started putting their depositor's dollars into the pockets of left-wing agitators like ACORN, which prided themselves on making loans to those with poor credit and no means to pay. It was only fair that they share in the American dream of homeownership too. The sub-prime borrower was born. The game was on. The Wall Street Brokerages and investment banks, with the encouragement of federal policy makers, have flooded America with cash. And to get that cash into society, for the common good, lending rules were loosened so that virtually anyone could get a loan, with no money down. It used to be that homebuyers had to have at least a 20% down payment. ... Read More: http://www.newswithviews.com/DeWeese/tom122.htm [Link submitted by Hugo Schmidt]
Florida Sheriff Harassed by FBI for Using Obama's Middle Name 'Hussein'. Lee County, FL Sheriff Mike Scott never expected to create a firestorm when he used the full name of the Democrat Party's presidential candidate "Barack Hussein Obama." At a rally in Estero, Florida, for GOP vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin, the highly decorated law enforcement executive was the pre-rally speaker for the Palin appearance. As with most political rallies, the job of pre-rally speakers is to warmup the audience. According to GOPUSA's (gopusa.com) editor Bobby Eberle whether the audience is cheering wildly or booing loudly, the pre-rally speakers are there to wake them up and get them going. So Sheriff Scott stepped to the podium and said, "On November 4, let's leave Barack Hussein Obama wondering what happened." ... Read More: http://www.newswithviews.com/Kouri/jim115.htm
The Financial Meltdown Was Predicted. Fannie Mae, the nation's biggest underwriter of home mortgages, has been under increasing pressure from the Clinton Administration to expand mortgage loans among low and moderate income people and felt pressure from stock holders to maintain its phenomenal growth in profits. ''Fannie Mae has expanded home ownership for millions of families in the 1990's by reducing down payment requirements,'' said Franklin D. Raines, Fannie Mae's chairman and chief executive officer. In moving, even tentatively, into this new area of lending, Fannie Mae is taking on significantly more risk, which may not pose any difficulties during flush economic times. But the government-subsidized corporation may run into trouble in an economic downturn, prompting a government rescue similar to that of the savings and loan industry in the 1980's. Comrade Barack Obama is not America's next president. There is still the unresolved issue of Obama providing a COLB - Certification of Live Birth - to prove he is a natural born citizen. Not a "birth certificate," but the COLB. The fact that this thug from Chicago refuses to provide this document since June, 2008, says it all. The second issue is if Obama were born in the U.S., but was automatically made an Indonesian citizen by virtue of his mother's marriage to her Indonesian husband and Obama's legal name change, he is ineligible to run for the presidency. Naturalized citizens are not eligible for the highest office in the land. Contrary to the propaganda spewed last night by the pimps who work for corporate media, Obama is not the next president. Biden's Ignorance Revealed. While Gov. Sarah Palin is being grilled on her position on mark-to-market accounting rules, the press can't bother to ask Joe Biden if he could give us a ballpark estimate on when Franklin D. Roosevelt was president or maybe take a stab at guessing the decade when televisions were first available to the public. Being interviewed by Katie Couric on the "CBS Evening News," Biden said: "When the stock market crashed, Franklin D. Roosevelt got on the television and didn't just talk about the, you know, the princes of greed. He said, 'Look, here's what happened.'" For those of you who aren't hard-core history buffs, Biden not only named the wrong president during the 1929 stock market crash, he also claimed a president who wasn't president during the stock market crash went on TV before Americans had TVs. ... Beware of the Red Dot. Why Main Street Lost? Follow the Money! First, consider that the people of this country have never before expressed such rage, such antipathy to a bill. According to one report, the people were 300 to one against it. One Member of Congress received 15,000 messages about it. Ten were in favor. Another said 95% of the messages he got were opposed. According to one analyst, "the calls to Congress are 50 percent 'No' and 50 percent 'Hell, No.'" There has not been anything like it in the history of the country. So, the fact that Congress could impose this financial version of the Dresden fire bombing in the face of such historic voter opposition "the fact that Congress could in effect spit in your face " is proof that representative government in the country is gone. The vote in Congress expressed the fact that we have government by coup; that the actual purpose of "representation" in Washington is to conceal its absence. Most people now see that. ... ACORN, The Mortgqage Crisis, & Obama. The most underreported story of this election season is the Association of Community Organizers For Reform Now, known by its acronym, ACORN. ACORN grew out of what wins the prize hands-down for one of the silliest and most destructive advocacy groups America has ever known the National Welfare Rights Organization. Founded by George Wiley, the NWRO became an army of single minority mothers whom he sent out to disrupt welfare offices through sit-ins and demonstrations demanding an end to oppressive eligibility restrictions. His aim was to so flood welfare offices as to cause the system to burst, creating a crisis he hoped would correct America's "unjust capitalist society." From 1965 to 1974, the nation's welfare rolls more than doubled to 10.3 million during generally good economic times. Clearly, it was a winning tactic. One of ACORN's later tactics was to flood banks and mortgage companies the same way, insisting that they do away with those pesky mortgage eligibility requirements. ... The most successful gambles in modern politics. John McCains pick of the young outsider Sarah Palin as his running mate has proven to be one of the most successful gambles in modern politics. It has brought tremendous energy to McCains campaign and millions of voters instinctively identify with Palin and her family-oriented, working class roots. Palin seems a wonderful return to the days of Harry Truman or even Andrew Jackson, when Americas anti-elitist electorate picked rough-hewn, plainspoken leaders from out of their own ranks and sent them to Washington to raise hell. The pick makes believable McCains pledge to bring real change to Washington, and it has thus severely blunted the shallow appeal of philosophical featherweight Barack Obama -- who had little to offer America other than a lyrical mantra of unspecified change. ... Dawn of Energy Independence? In just two weeks, on Oct. 1, Americans could be celebrating American Energy Freedom Day. That's the day the bans on oil shale and offshore drilling for oil and natural gas in America will expire. Right off American shores there are reserves estimated to hold over 20 billion barrels of oil and 97 trillion cubic feet of natural gas. And in the west, oil shale is estimated to be between 800 billion and 2 trillion barrels of oil -- that is more than three times the proven oil reserves in Saudi Arabia alone. So-called "compromise" legislation being considered in Congress would increase energy taxes and only open up a fraction of these vast reserves, while permanently banning nearly 80% of our energy resources offshore. It would be irrational in a national energy crisis to create any new ban on American energy, and that's why the best solution is for Congress to allow the current bans to expire on Oct. 1. ... Official Democrat website: Palin pick 'lipstick on a pig'. The official website of the Democratic Party has a blog posting entitled, "McCain's Selection of Palin is Lipstick on a Pig," illustrated by an altered photograph of a pig with makeup, designer glasses and pearls. "Palin is a red herring, lipstick on the Republican pig to distract Americans from the real issue that under the leadership of the Republicans the last 8 years, our country is falling apart," writes the blogger, Elizabeth Berry, a self-described 49-year-old "progressive" from Texas. The posting was published 11 days ago, well before Sen. Barack Obama drew sharp criticism yesterday when he jabbed at Palin and Sen. John McCain's idea of "change" by stating, 'You can put lipstick on a pig, it's still a pig.'" ... Read More: http://wnd.com/index.php?fa=PAGE.view&pageId=74870 [Link provided by Wyjoz]
Sarah Palin Is My Girl. With grave suspicion and reservations, I nonetheless rejoice that the fading embers of conservatism may have indeed caught fire once more. That fireball is Gov.Sarah Palin of Alaska, I pray the next Vice President of the United States. Now I know why I have seen no one with any guts in the Republican Party in so long: the governor of Alaska has them all. Her speech last night was clearly a grand slam out-of-the-park home run. America, we have liftoff! By selecting Gov. Palin to be his running mate, Sen. McCain has finally electrified the conservative base -- the very base he desperately needs to defeat Sen.Obama in November. Obama's Lipstick Smear. When Barack Obama stood in Lebanon, Virginia on September 9, and said, "You can put lipstick on a pig, but it's still a pig," I must say I concurred. And like tens of millions of Americans, I didn't think it was an insult directed at Gov. Sarah Palin. But it was a lame attempt at a quip to demonstrate that Sarah Palin is nothing new or that the McCain/Palin ticket doesn't represent real change. I actually think the phrase fits far better on the Democrats, and particularly Obama, who has spent more than a year and half pretending to be what he isn't in order to garner votes that he otherwise would not receive. It was obvious that Obama was going to be a weak candidate when he confronted Maureen Dowd in December 2006, for comments she made about his ears. It was after a speech in New Hampshire that Obama walked up to Dowd and said: "You talked about my ears, and I just want to put you on notice: I'm very sensitive about [them]...I was teased relentlessly when I was a kid about my big ears.'" What? How is a man who can't handle being ribbed for having gigantic ears ever supposed to handle the threats of our terroristic enemy; an enemy that will certainly forego picking on his ears in their bid to go straight for the throat? ... Dobson: "I Would Pull that Lever" for McCain-Palin. Earlier this year Dr. Jim Dobson, President of Focus on the Family made news when he announced on "The Dennis Prager Show" that he "cannot and will not vote for Senator John McCain." Today, on The Dennis Prager Show, the conservative leader changed course and announced his enthusiastic support on the heels of the announcement by Senator McCain of Alaska Governor Sarah Palin as his vice presidential running mate. Dobson: You know, Dennis, the things that concern me about John McCain are still there. I made those comments not just based on emotions, but based on his record and some of the things that took placeembryonic stem cell research, and other things, the campaign finance, and other things. Those are still there. So, theres still concerns. But I tell you, when I look at the choices that are ahead and what the implications are for this country, and now especially with this selection, with just an outstanding V.P. candidate as a running mate, I tell you what I am relieved and very excited. ... The Farce of 18 Million Cracks. What glass ceiling? If it exists, how did Palin, with virtually no experience, ascend from mayor of her small town to governor of Alaska -- a very macho state? She did it with brains, guts, hard work, sharp elbows, and no victimhood whining. Despite being antithetical to her own experience, she felt that the "glass ceiling" would resonate with Hillary's acolytes. Frankly, I think she blunted her otherwise powerful message. Another form of the farcical glass ceiling is the oft-mentioned wage gap between the genders. It's crap. At the DNC in Denver, Barack Obama said: "And now is the time to keep the promise of equal pay for an equal day's work, because I want my daughters to have exactly the same opportunities as your sons." Obama receives illegal funds from 'terrorist hotbed.' According to Federal Election Commission filings, Barack Obama has received illegal donations from Palestinians living in Gaza, a hotbed of Hamas terrorists. Obama received more than $24,000 in campaign contributions over a period of two months last fall from three Palestinian brothers from the "Edwan" family in Rafah, Gaza, which is a Hamas stronghold along the border with Egypt. The story was uncovered by Pamela Geller of the Atlas Shrugs blog. Obama's Trip Backfires; McCain Surges to 4-Point Lead in USA Today/Gallup Poll. A surprising poll released Monday confirms Sen. Barack Obama's worst nightmare: he actually lost ground to Sen. John McCain after a global trip meant to buck up his sagging credentials in foreign and military policy. The USA Today/Gallup poll has McCain leading Obama by four points, 49 percent to Obama's 45 percent, among likely voters. Just last month, the same poll had McCain trailing by six points to the neophyte U.S. senator. Among registered voters, McCain was just three points behind Obama -- a statistical dead heat. The USA Today/Gallup poll is consistent with the Rasmussen tracking poll, which also shows Obama ahead by just three percentage points -- again a statistical tie. ... Squeezing Oil From a Stone. The nation's frantic search for crude-oil sources is leading to one of the oldest, richest and most-elusive prizes in the petroleum industry: oil shale. The U.S. has the largest known reserves of the coal-like rock, 80% of which lie beneath federal lands. By some estimates, U.S. oil-shale reserves could yield 800 billion barrels of oil, triple the current proven reserves of Saudi Arabia. But tapping that potential requires heating rocks buried deep beneath the earth to hundreds of degrees Fahrenheit. Oil companies are racing to find ways to do so economically, but their solutions are years away from commercial use. That means oil shale is like many other potential solutions to the nation's energy woes: a resource of staggering potential that is a decade too far. Oil beneath the Alaskan wilderness or the California coast could add billions of barrels to U.S. production but will take years to access. ... The Sad Road to Socialism. In essence, when a government goes from being a protector of private property to a plunderer of it, it places itself on a course of chaos, economic ruin and its own ultimate self-destruction. Socialism is the mechanism which transforms government from its noble role as a protector into a predator and, since the citizens of our fine country seem determined to plow through socialism to its bitter end, we should examine the territory through which these three sad steps lead. The core result of socialism is the destruction of private property and wealth. The events described in this piece are a composite of the ravages of socialism experienced in other countries. While each country does experience all the events portrayed, all socialist countries follow the same miserable path. The U.S. doesn't have to go down this path, but it seems determines to do so. ... The UN Is Communist? The UN was founded at the San Francisco Conference in 1945, as the war was coming to an end. The Secretary-General at the UN conference was a distinguished gentleman names Alger Hiss, movie star-handsome, endlessly efficient and consummately charming. Hiss helped draft the UN Charter. There was only one problem. Alger Hiss was later exposed as a Soviet spy; he was convicted of perjury and imprisoned for lying under oath about his Communist activities. No doubt that was why, at the first London Conference in 1946, a couple of years before he was exposed, Hiss arranged for the Soviets to run UN military activities and for the United States to run UN financial activities, which meant in effect that the Soviet Union won the right to run the UN and we won the right to pay for it. It is important to note that Alger Hiss was just one of many Soviet UN maggots. ... Read More: http://www.unwatch.com/un_communist.shtml
Obama Shows 'Frightening Naivete'. In the 1993 World Trade bombing, while some perpetrators were prosecuted, others, like Osama bin Laden, were not, Romney points out. Moreover, Romney says, since the 9/11 hijackers did not care if they were killed or sent to jail, and all died in the attack, it is foolhardy to suggest that the threat of prosecutions would be a deterrent. Obama Changes Presidential Seal. Sen. Barack Obama has promised "change," and his campaign has already been hard at work changing one of the basic symbols of the nation the Presidential Seal. On Friday, the press was abuzz over the new seal, which was unveiled on Obama's podium when he spoke to a group of Democratic governors. While the Obama seal does include the American bald eagle clutching arrows and an olive branch, the resemblance ends there. The Latin phrase "E Pluribus Unum," which translates to "Out of many, one," now says "Vero Possumus." Press reports translate the Latin words as "Truly, we are able" a rough translation of the Obama campaign slogan, "Yes we can." The deletion of "E Pluribus Unum," long considered the de-facto motto of the United States, is not accidental for multiculturalists, who have long denigrated the concept that immigrants must strip away their old culture in favor of the "oneness" of American civilization. ... Calif. firefighters battle more than 1,400 blazes. SAN FRANCISCO - More than a thousand wildfires - including a massive, stubborn blaze in the Big Sur region - were burning early Monday in Northern California and there was no relief in sight for weary firefighters. Fire crews inched closer to getting some of the largest of 1,420 blazes surrounded, according to the state Office of Emergency Services. Some 364,600 acres - or almost 570 square miles - have burned. The fires burning now were mostly sparked by lightning storms that were unusually intense for so early in the season. What's next -- an ice age? The absence of sunspots has left some scientists scratching their heads about what could be next. Extremely low sunspot activity and extended periods of no sunspot activity have some scientists wondering how this could affect the weather on Earth. Noted environmentalist and author Lawrence Solomon says there is a vast historical record dating back hundreds of years that could provide some insight to this phenomenon. "There has been a coincidence over the centuries of an absence of sunspots correlating with very cold temperatures, and a presence of sunspots corresponding to warm periods," he explains. Obama's Rise Has Muslim World Giving America Another Look. While Obama, who was raised a Christian, is constantly assuring Americans that he is not a Muslim, Egyptians are amazed, excited and agog that America might elect a black man whose father's family was of Muslim heritage. They don't really understand Obama's family tree, but what they do know is that if America, despite being attacked by Muslim militants on 9/11, were to elect as its president some guy with the middle name "Hussein," it would mark a sea change in America-Muslim world relations. It would not be an exaggeration to say that the Democrats' nomination of Obama as their candidate for president has done more to improve America's image abroad, an image dented by the Iraq war, President Bush's invocation of a post-9/11 "crusade," Abu Ghraib, Guantanamo Bay and the xenophobic opposition to Dubai Ports World managing U.S. harbors, than the entire Bush public diplomacy effort for seven years. ... Supreme Court decision favors terror suspects. WASHINGTON - The Supreme Court ruled Thursday that foreign terrorism suspects held at Guantanamo Bay have rights under the Constitution to challenge their detention in U.S. civilian courts. (View video report) The justices handed the Bush administration its third setback at the high court since 2004 over its treatment of prisoners who are being held indefinitely and without charges at the U.S. naval base in Cuba. The vote was 5-4, with the court's liberal justices in the majority. Justice Anthony Kennedy, writing for the court, said, "The laws and Constitution are designed to survive, and remain in force, in extraordinary times." It was not immediately clear whether this ruling, unlike the first two, would lead to prompt hearings for the detainees, some of whom have been held more than six years. Roughly 270 men remain at the island prison, classified as enemy combatants and held on suspicion of terrorism or links to al-Qaida and the Taliban. ... America's Medicated Army. Seven months after Sergeant Christopher LeJeune started scouting Baghdad's dangerous roads, acting as bait to lure insurgents into the open so his Army unit could kill them, he found himself growing increasingly despondent. "We'd been doing some heavy missions, and things were starting to bother me," LeJeune says. His unit had been protecting Iraqi police stations targeted by rocket-propelled grenades, hunting down mortars hidden in dark Baghdad basements and cleaning up its own messes. He recalls the order his unit got after a nighttime firefight to roll back out and collect the enemy dead. When LeJeune and his buddies arrived, they discovered that some of the bodies were still alive. "You don't always know who the bad guys are," he says. "When you search someone's house, you have it built up in your mind that these guys are terrorists, but when you go in, there's little bitty tiny shoes and toys on the floor, things like that started affecting me a lot more than I thought they would." ... http://www.time.com/time/nation/article/0,8599,1811858,00.html [Link provided by Hugo Schmidt]
$4 Gas? It's Our Fault. In 1991, Sen. Richard Bryan (D) of Nevada urged Congress to mandate more-efficient cars and trucks. He called it a matter of national security. Senator Bryan's bill would have required that gas mileage rise to approximately 34 mpg in 1996, and 40 mpg in 2001. But Congress sat on its hands. Not until last year, with gas prices again soaring, did it mandate 35 mpg by 2020. It was too little and too late for this crisis. Instead, the actual gas mileage of cars and light trucks produced last year was only 20.2 mpg worse than it was in 1987. The Environmental Protection Agency says that in 2006, vehicles sold in America were the heaviest, fastest, and most powerful of any since it began collecting data. Contrived Shortages and the New Reality. The United Nations has a scheme to charge every person who operates a tractor, a lawn mower, auto, power tool, or any other energy-using device a "carbon tax." A punishing tax will also hit homeowners and businesses that have air conditioning systems. Meanwhile, a global pollution tax will be placed on every gallon of gas you buy for vehicles. Does the Queen of Canada Become the Queen of United States? Let's take a look at what we know about our relationship with Canada. They have become America's largest trading partner surpassing our trade with Japan. On a daily basis the volume is over $1B or about $400B a year. Twenty-three percent of American exports are sent to Canada and more than 80% of Canada's exports come to us. They are the largest export market for 39 of the 50 states. We import 80% of Canada's wood, paper, and pulp and 17% of their oil and 18% of their natural gas. Beijing's Nuclear Option. Over the past week two high-level officials in Chinese Communist Party think tanks have granted interviews to the western media in order to "unofficially" warn the Bush-43 Administration not to take any steps to curtail the importation of Chinese products into the United States or to attempt to force China to increase the value of the yuan. The officials hinted that China might be forced to liquidate its vast holdings of US Treasury notestotaling some $1.33 trillion. That could trigger a dollar crash that would spark a major economic recession. In addition, a spike in bond yields could trigger additional problems for the US housing industry, sinking any housing market recovery for the balance of this year and perhaps next year as well. ... The U.S. Role in a Mexico Assassination. Thus Mexican President Felipe Caldern has made confronting organized crime a priority since taking office in December 2006. His attorney general, Eduardo Medina Mora, told me in February that the goal is to reclaim the state's authority where it has been lost to the mafias. But after 17 months of engagement, while San Diego students party on, victory remains elusive and the Mexican death toll is mounting. Most of the drug-related killings since Mr. Caldern took office seem to be a result of battles between rival cartels. Still, the escalating violence is troubling. The official death toll attributable to organized crime since the Calder'n crackdown began now stands at 3,995. Of that, 1,170 have died this year. ... India Blames the U.S. for the Food Shortage. The food problem has "clearly" been created by Americans, who are eating 50 percent more calories than the average person in India, said Pradeep Mehta, the secretary general of CUTS Center for International Trade, Economics and Environment, a private economic research organization based in India with offices in Kenya, Zambia, Vietnam and Britain. If Americans were to slim down to even the middle-class weight in India, "many hungry people in sub-Saharan Africa would find food on their plates," Mehta said. The money Americans spend on liposuction to get rid of their excess fat could be funneled to famine victims instead, he added. ... Nobel Prize for Death. And so it has begun. Word is beginning to spill into the news of food riots and starvation in poor countries, as a result of shortages and the resulting high prices for grain. This suffering is a direct result of the unprincipled actions of self-interested people in developed countries who are promulgating the scientifically refuted myth of human-caused global warming. Frightened by this myth, U. S. federal and state governments have diverted a significant amount of the American grain supply into the production of ethanol -- an entirely counterproductive action that has helped to cause these grain shortages. ... Bush, Congress clash over economy. Washington - In the run-up to a high-profile update on the nation's economic growth Wednesday, President Bush and Congress clashed over who is to blame for delays in responding to top concerns of American families: soaring gas and food prices, a housing crisis, and the student loan crunch. "I've repeatedly submitted proposals to help address these problems. Yet time after time Congress chose to block them," the president said at a Rose Garden press conference on Tuesday. The solution for high gas prices is expanding production here at home, including opening the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge (ANWR) to exploration and drilling a move that would produce about a million additional barrels of oil a day, he said. He also called for building more refinery capacity and expanding the use of nuclear power. ... Read more: [Link submitted by Hugo Schmidt] http://www.csmonitor.com/2008/0430/p25s01-usec.html?page=1
Is Mecca the True Center of the World? Is there a way to find the center of the surface of the Earth? This may look like an impossible task - but not if you are a crank scientist and/or if you believe the world is flat. So at a recent conference in Qatar, some Muslim "scientists" and scholars urged the world to replace the Greenwich Mean Time (GMT) with Mecca time...because they believe that Mecca is the true center of the Earth. Hmm...ok...wait and lets hope that ships don't fall off from the edge of the world. Muslim scientists and clerics have called for the adoption of Mecca time to replace GMT, arguing that the Saudi city is the true centre of the Earth. Mecca is the direction all Muslims face when they perform their daily prayers. Read more: http://sciencereligionnews.blogspot.com/
China builds its large-scale future. The new Terminal 3 at the airport in Beijing is twice the size of the Pentagon. Adorned in the colors of imperial China, with a roof that evokes the scales of a dragon, the massive glass- and steel-sheathed structure, designed by the British architect Norman Foster, cost $3.8 billion and can handle more than 50 million passengers a year. The developers call it the "most advanced airport building in the world," and say it was completed in less than four years, a timetable some believed impossible. It opened in late February with little fanfare, but also without the kind of glitches that plagued Heathrow's new $8.7 billion terminal near London, which took six years to complete. ... "When I think back to our site visits with Norman, it was an incredible scene to see 50,000 people working on a building," said Majidi, who worked closely with Norman Foster, the Pritzker prize-winning architect. The Legacy of The Berlin Airlift Lives On. To save the people of West Berlin from starving and prevent the Soviet Union from absorbing West Berlin into the communist bloc, the American, French and British forces took decisive action. Harry Truman, We Miss You! When President Truman retired from office in 1952, his income was substantially a U.S. Army pension reported to have been $13,507.72 a year. Congress, noting that he was paying for his stamps and personally licking them, granted him an "allowance" and, later, a retroactive pension of $25,000 per year. When offered corporate positions at large salaries, he declined, stating, "You don't want me. You want the office of the president, and that doesn't belong to me. It belongs to the American people. and it's not for sale." Even later, on May 6, 1971, when Congress was preparing to award him the Medal of Honor on his 87th birthday, he refused to accept it, writing, "I don't consider that I have done anything which should be the reason for any award, Congressional or otherwise." We now see that the Clintons have found a new level of success in cashing in, unashamedly, on the presidency, resulting in untold wealth. Today, many in Congress also have found a way to become quite wealthy while enjoying the fruits of their offices. Political offices are now for sale. ...

Europe or Eurabia? Muslim domination strikes some analysts as inevitable. Oriana Fallaci found that "Europe becomes more and more a province of Islam, a colony of Islam." Mark Steyn argues that much of the Western world "will not survive the twenty-first century, and much of it will effectively disappear within our lifetimes, including many if not most European countries." Such authors point to three factors leading to Europe's Islamization: faith, demography, and a sense of heritage. The secularism that predominates in Europe, especially among its elites, leads to alienation about the Judeo-Christian tradition, empty church pews, and a fascination with Islam. In complete contrast, Muslims display a religious fervor that translates into jihadi sensibility, a supremacism toward non-Muslims, and an expectation that Europe is waiting for conversion to Islam. ...
