Bush administration gives protection to pro-life doctors. WASHINGTON (BP)--The Bush administration has issued a rule affirming the right of doctors and other health care providers to refuse to participate in abortion and other medical procedures to which they object. The Department of Health and Human Services announced the new regulation Dec. 18. The rule will take effect 30 days after its publication Dec. 19 in the Federal Register, which means it will be in force when President-elect Barack Obama is sworn in Jan. 20. In the wake of the announcement, abortion-rights advocates called on the Obama administration to overturn the new HHS regulation. The regulation makes clear institutions that receive certain HHS funds as well as employees of such institutions are protected from discrimination. Recipients of such HHS funds must verify their compliance with laws safeguarding the conscience rights of health care providers. ... Obama's "Punished with a Baby" Declaration. At a town hall meeting in Johnstown, Pennsylvania on Saturday afternoon, Barack Obama told the crowd that he didn't want his daughters, "punished with a baby." Here is what a staff writer said about Obamas frank statement: "I understand Obama was talking off the cuff and these were not prepared remarks. I also know that when you're on the campaign trail 20 hours a day you will say something you wish you hadn't. But still. "Punished with a baby?" That just doesn't sound right. Why use the word punished? " A blogger had this to say about the same issue: "Punished with a baby? God have mercy. There is this new idea, it is called adoption." Does Obama realize that the one really receiving the ultimate punishment is not the pregnant female, but rather the aborted innocent baby? Can nine months of inconvenience compare with body dismemberment by the abortionist? Here is your chance to hear Obams talk about his view on abortion and his promise to Planned Parenthood, the main provider of abortion in America. Effect of Abortion Legalization on Sexual Behavior and Sexually Transmitted Diseases. A study conducted by Jonathan Klick, from the George Mason University School of Law; and Thomas Stratmann, from the Department of Economics, George Mason University revealed that the legalization of abortion has a direct relationship with the increase in the incidence of sexually transmitted diseases like syphilis and gonorrhea. These results were obtained by the investigators after a careful analysis of data obtained from the CDC governmental agency. The study seemed to indicate that the incidence of said sexually transmitted diseases are significantly and positively correlated with the legalization of abortion. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (or CDC) is an agency of the United States Department of Health and Human Services based in unincorporated DeKalb County in the Atlanta metropolitan area, Georgia, United States adjacent to the campus of Emory University and northeast of downtown Atlanta. It works to protect public health and safety by providing information to enhance health decisions, and it promotes health through partnerships with state health departments and other organizations. ... Washington voters approve assisted suicide initiative. Voters approved Initiative 1000 on Tuesday, making Washington the second state to give terminally ill people the option of medically assisted suicide. The ballot measure, patterned after Oregon's "Death with Dignity" law, allows a terminally ill person to be prescribed lethal medication, which would be self-administered. With about 43 percent of the expected vote counted Tuesday in unofficial returns, I-1000 was being approved by a margin of about 58 percent to about 42 percent. Supporters, led publicly by Democratic former Gov. Booth Gardner, said the initiative would provide a compassionate way for terminally ill people to die. Gardner has Parkinson's disease, an incurable disorder that causes tremors and stiff or frozen limbs. Gardner, who would not be eligible under I-1000 because Parkinson's is not considered fatal, said he pushed the measure in his "last campaign" because he understood why other ill people would want the option. Opponents, including the Catholic church, said assisted suicide is a dangerous step that devalues human life. Critics also said the assisted suicide measure could exploit depressed or vulnerable people who worry they've become a burden on their families. ... Stem Cells From Men's Testicles May Be Option Over Embryos. WASHINGTON -- Cells taken from men's testicles seem as versatile as the stem cells derived from embryos, researchers reported Wednesday in what may be yet another new approach in a burgeoning scientific field. The new type of stem cells could be useful for growing personalized replacement tissues, according to a study in Thursday's issue of the journal Nature. But because of their source, their highest promise would apply to only half the world's population: men. Embryonic stem cells can give rise to virtually any tissue in the body and scientists believe they may offer treatments for diseases like Parkinson's and diabetes and for spinal cord injuries. The testicular cells avoid the ethical dilemma of embryonic stem cells, which are harvested in a process that destroys the embryos. For that reason, some people, including President George W. Bush, oppose their use for ethical or religious reasons. ... Read More: http://online.wsj.com/article_email/SB122347314997315137-lMyQjAxMDI4MjAzODQwNzgzWj.html [Link submitted by Hugo Schmidt]
The Death of the Pro-abortion Movement. Tooley notes some areas where they encouraged Obama to take action. "Passing the so-called Freedom of Choice Act, overturning any kind of restrictions on abortions across the country, and overturning by executive order the Mexico City Policy prohibiting U.S. government funding for overseas abortion advocacy," he explains. Obama has also been urged to repeal the Hyde Amendment that prohibits use of tax dollars for abortions. Tooley contends the pro-abortion forces that call themselves Christian groups are the same ones that have been losing membership for years. "Abortions within those denominations have kept their membership from climbing, and the fact that members of the denominations are not having a lot of children," he adds. "So it's almost as though these denominations are embracing an overall culture of death that is leading to their own death." ... Read More: http://www.onenewsnow.com/Politics/Default.aspx?id=329586
Doctors transplant windpipe with stem cells. LONDON (AP) - Doctors have given a woman a new windpipe with tissue grown from her own stem cells, eliminating the need for anti-rejection drugs. "This technique has great promise," said Dr. Eric Genden, who did a similar transplant in 2005 at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York. That operation used both donor and recipient tissue. Only a handful of windpipe, or trachea, transplants have ever been done. If successful, the procedure could become a new standard of treatment, said Genden, who was not involved in the research. The results were published online Wednesday in the medical journal, The Lancet. The transplant was given to Claudia Castillo, a 30-year-old Colombian mother of two living in Barcelona, suffered from tuberculosis for years. After a severe collapse of her left lung in March, Castillo needed regular hospital visits to clear her airways and was unable to take care of her children. ... College threatens pro-life students with arrest. Each semester since 2006, members of the University of Calgary's Campus Pro-Life student club, called CPL, have displayed a set of 4-by-8-foot signs from the Genocide Awareness Project that protest abortion. This semester, however, lawyers for the university sent a menacing letter to CPL informing the students that their signs would only be permitted if turned away from passing foot traffic. Violation of this policy, the letter stated, would make pro-life protesters on campus "subject to arrest, fines or a civil lawsuit." CPL students involved in an outward display of the signs, the letter threatened, would also be subject to discipline, including suspension or expulsion. Despite the threats, CPL students plan to defy the university's reversal of policy and display the pro-life signs Wednesday and Thursday. ... Planned Parenthood Nurse Admits Infanticide: "It Does Happen." ARLINGTON, VA, October 31, 2008 (LifeSiteNews.com) Yesterday, Students for Life of America (SFLA) released undercover footage of a nurse at a Title X, federally funded Freehold, New Jersey Planned Parenthood facility describing how an abortion would be performed on a 22 week unborn child. Obama Closing Catholic Hospitals? On Oct. 7, 2007, Sen. Barack Obama spoke to the Planned Parenthood Action Fund and promised, "The first thing I'd do as president is sign the Freedom of Choice Act. That's the first thing I'll do." What is the Freedom of Choice Act? It is the most sweeping pro-abortion legislation ever proposed in the United States. "The operative language of FOCA is twofold. First it creates a 'fundamental right' to abortion throughout the nine months of pregnancy, including a right to abort a fully developed child in the final weeks for undefined "health" reasons. No government body at any level would be able to "deny or interfere with" this newly created federal right. Second, it forbids government at all levels to "discriminate" against the exercise of this right "in the regulation or provision of benefits, facilities, services, or information." For the first time, abortion on demand would be a national entitlement that government must condone and promote in all public programs affecting pregnant women," said the cardinal. It is clear the FOCA raises abortion to what it calls a "fundamental right." ... Read More: http://www.thebulletin.us/site/index.cfm?newsid=20183831&BRD=2737&PAG=461&dept_id=576361&rfi=8
The Death of Abortion. An open letter to President-elect Barack Obama. Southern Baptists remain unalterably committed to the protection of unborn human life. The vast majority of Southern Baptists believe that a pre-born baby is a distinct human life, according to both science and the Bible (Psalms 51:5; Psalms 139-13-16; Jeremiah 1:5; Luke 1:41). The euphemism of "choice" or "reproductive freedom" cannot disguise or justify killing a baby. Government has a proper role in protecting lives, including the lives of the unborn. Southern Baptists, by national resolutions, have opposed abortion on demand, and have called for public policies which severely restrict abortion and which promote alternatives such as adoption. Mr. President-elect, you have said you want to unite us as a nation. An excellent place to work for such unity and consensus on the life issue would be for you to put your full and vigorous support behind the Democrats for Life House Caucus initiative known as the Pregnant Women Support Act or the 95-10 Initiative (because its goal is to reduce abortion by 95 percent over a 10-year period). ... Abortion law threatens Catholic medical tradition. An abortion law being considered in Australia's southern state of Victoria may bring an end to a 175-year tradition of Catholic hospitals, says Melbourne Archbishop Denis Hart. The Abortion Law Reform Bill, already passed by state's lower house of parliament, would require doctors who refused to perform an abortion for reasons of conscience to provide a referral to another doctor who would. "In the worst-case scenario, if a government is determined to enforce such laws, we have no option. We might get out of hospitals altogether," Archbishop Hart told Australia's The Age. "Catholic hospitals cannot be part of any abortion," Hart said. "That has to be respected in the community. Even providing a referral is a cooperation in evil, and that impacts very strongly on us as Catholics." ... Read More: http://wnd.com/index.php?fa=PAGE.view&pageId=75924
Obama ad goes to war with abortion survivor. In the increasing flurry of this election season's negative political ads, the Barack Obama campaign produced a TV commercial that not only attacks Republican rival John McCain, but also takes aim at an unusual target: a 31-year-old woman who was born alive after her mother's botched abortion. Obama's commercial predictably takes shots at the GOP campaign, calling McCain's ads "the sleaziest ever, truly vile." But when the screen shows clips of abortion survivor Gianna Jessen and the ad she made asking Obama to reverse his stance on born alive infant protection legislation, the Obama ad calls Jessen's appeal "a despicable lie. "The Obama advertisement can be seen below: The attack on Jessen has angered pro-life advocates. "It is despicable, repulsive and beneath contempt that Barack Obama would attack Gianna Jessen," says Jill Stanek, a pro-life columnist who testified before Congress in support of the federal Born Alive Infants Protection Act, in a statement on Jessen's website. "She is a courageous abortion survivor and living miracle who would not be with us today if Obama's policies had been in place when she was born." ... Caylee Anthony's DNA Has Been Found. Caylee Anthony's birthday has come and gone as she remains a missing person and the mystery surrounding her disappearance continues to be a topic of interest. Although authorities publicly state they have Caylee's DNA, they will not comment on where it was obtained--Casey's car trunk, her closet, or some other item. Many speculate it was retrieved from Casey Anthony's car--the vehicle she abandoned that Caylee's grandmother, Cindy Anthony believed smelled like a dead body when she called 911. Just over a week ago, Casey's car was searched using a cadaver dog who indicated the foul smell was the scent of a dead body. Law enforcement also found dirt, an unknown stain, and hairs in the trunk. ... The Foolish Farmer metaphor. I wish everybody would read what you have so well stated about the foolishness of those who create human life and then proceed to destroy it. If a farmer were to spread the seeds, and then proceeded to pull out the growing wheat, arguing at the same time that he actually enjoyed spreading the seeds but was not interested in the harvest, we would agree that said individual has lost his mind. If said farmer would at harvest time turn around and buy wheat from his neighbor to feed his family, we would have no doubt that the man needed some psychological treatment in order to bring the individual back to sanity. This represents what we in the West are doing. We destroy our own children, and then allow both legal and illegal immigrants to fill the demographic void, despite the fact that many of these foreigners come determined to impose their own values on our society. This doesn't make sense to me! ... Nic Samojluk Read More: http://www.mercatornet.com/articles/chinas_one_child_policy_in_the_balance/
Study of Chemical in Plastic Bottles Raises Alarm. Bisphenol A (BPA), a compound in hard, clear polycarbonate plastics, is getting official scrutinyand things are looking less than rosy for the controversial chemical. The U.S. government's National Toxicology Program yesterday agreed with a scientific panel that recently expressed concern about physiological changes that occur in people when they ingest BPA that has leached from plastics into their food. The Canadian government is even considering declaring the chemical toxic, reports today's New York Times. This could set the stage for banning it from plastic baby bottles, water bottles, and food containers. At the very least, some people will be even more eager to buy foods and beverages in BPA-free containers. ... Former Nurse on Obama's Controversial Abortion Vote. STANEK: One night a nursing coworker was taking a little baby boy who had been aborted alive at -- between 21 and 22 weeks because he had down syndrome to our soiled utility room to die because his parents didn't want to hold him, and she didn't have time to hold him that night, and when she told me what she was doing, I couldn't bear the thought of this suffering child dying alone, and so I did cradle and rock him for the 45 minutes that he lived. Scientific breakthrough! No embryonic stem cells needed. The argument for embryonic stem cells as the potential solution for a vast array of human diseases has taken another significant hit with the successful testing of an adult cell that can match tissues in the heart, lung, liver, pancreas, blood vessels, brain, muscle, bone and fat. The San Francisco research and development company Medistem Inc. says its newest tests reveal the cell can regenerate failed blood vessels, allowing a restoration of health in limbs once given no alternative but amputation. Many medical researchers long have cited their desire for embryonic stem cells to study as a possible solution to myriad human diseases, although few results actually have been documented. Barack Obama & Abortion. Asked by Pastor Rick Warren when a baby gets rights, Obama said, "I'm absolutely convinced that there is a moral and ethical element to this issue." This is a crashing banality couched as thoughtfulness. If Obama is so sensitive to the moral element of the issue, why does he want to eliminate any existing restrictions on the procedure? In 2007, Obama told the Planned Parenthood Action Fund that the Freedom of Choice Act would be the first piece of legislation that he would sign as president. The act would not only codify Roe v. Wade, but wipe out all current federal, state and local restrictions on abortion that pass muster under Roe, including the Hyde Amendment prohibiting federal funding of abortion. This is not the legislative priority of a man keenly attuned to the moral implications of abortion. At Saddleback, Obama said determining when a baby gets rights is "above his pay grade." Leave aside that presidents usually have an opinion about who deserves legal rights. If Obama is willing to permit any abortions in any circumstances, hed better possess an absolute certainty about the absolute moral nullity of the fetus. ... Obama Admits Not Knowing When Human Life Begins! When called on the carpet in 2004 for his complicity in facilitating infanticide, Obama began an extensive cover-up, accusing those who exposed the scandal of lying. But in recent days, based on documentary evidence unearthed by the National Right to Life Committee, the Obama campaign has been forced to admit that it was Obama, in fact, who had been lying all along. He not only led the charge to allow the continued practice of infanticide in Illinois, he carried the flag. During his recent "not-ready-for-primetime" appearance at Pastor Rick Warren's Saddleback forum, Obama was asked at what point "a baby gets human rights." His answer was shocking: "Well, uh, you know, I think that whether you're looking at it from a theological perspective or, uh, a scientific perspective, uh, answering that question with specificity, uh, you know, is, is, uh, above my pay grade," said Obama. ... John McCain Pro Life? What A Joke! Once again, "pro-life" Christians are doing back flips to try and justify their compromise of the life issue by trying to convince everyone (including themselves) that John McCain is truly pro-life. However, these same people know in their hearts that John McCain shares no fidelity to the life issue in any significant or meaningful way. Like many in the Republican Party, McCain's commitment to life is about as deep as a mud puddle. Infant Transplant Procedure Ignites Debate. Since the 1970s, most organs have been removed only after doctors declared a patient brain-dead. But in the hopes of obtaining more organs, federal health officials, transplant surgeons and organ banks have been intensely promoting "donation after cardiac death," or DCD. DCD usually involves patients who have devastating and irreversible brain damage but are not actually brain-dead. Their families consent to removing life support, and their organs are removed minutes after the patients' hearts stop beating. While DCD has become increasingly common, it remains highly controversial. Critics say it endangers the care of dying patients -- a California surgeon is facing criminal charges that he tried to hasten the death of a potential DCD donor in 2006 -- and has raised questions about whether the donors are truly dead. ... FDA Fumbling Fiasco of Failed Food Safety over Salmonella. Watching the FDA trip over its own clumsy self while groping for answers on Salmonella is a sad affair. Following the FDA-encouraged destruction of tens of millions of dollars of perfectly good tomatoes, this confused, bewildered agency admits that tomatoes may not have been the problem after all, and it has now set its sights on destroying the peppers industry. Is there no vegetable safe from the destruction of the FDA? Tomatoes don't harbor salmonella, by the way. Neither do peppers, onions, cilantro or spinach. Abortion May Cause Psychological Harm to Women. PIERRE, S.D. (AP) Starting Friday, doctors in South Dakota must tell women seeking abortions that the procedure ends a human life and may cause them psychological harm, the state attorney general said. Planned Parenthood challenged the 2005 law that requires those statements, but a court order that prevented the state from enforcing the law expires Friday. "Any entity to whom the law applies should be in compliance tomorrow," Attorney General Larry Long said Thursday. Planned Parenthood, which operates a women's clinic in Sioux Falls that is South Dakota's only acknowledged abortion provider, will comply with the law, spokeswoman Kathi Di Nicola said. Tiller abortion clinic allegedly performs abortion on unwilling sixteen-year-old. Wichita, Jul 18, 2008 / 05:55 pm (CNA).- A sixteen-year-old Kansas girl was allegedly forced by her mother to undergo an abortion on Wednesday at an abortion clinic run by the notorious late-term abortionist George Tiller. Reportedly both the teenage girl and the baby's father, who was also sixteen, objected to the abortion. The young father arrived at the clinic too late to stop the abortion, a pro-life group says. According to an incident report from the Kansas Coalition for Life (KCFL) the sixteen-year-old girl was two months pregnant. Her mother brought her to the Women's Health Care Services clinic in Wichita for the abortion at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday. The KCFL says that Dillon, the reported father of the baby, arrived at the clinic in his own vehicle in the early afternoon. He reportedly told Jennifer McCoy, who was a KCFL pro-life counselor at the site, that his parents were willing to raise or adopt the baby and do whatever they could to help the teenage parents. Dillon claimed that he planned to marry his girlfriend when they graduated from high school and that his parents were supportive of the idea. ... Young Mother at 14! A random act of fate changed one teenage girl's life forever. A random act of kindness changed it further still. After the first time she had sex, Jessica Trevino got pregnant. Of course, Trevino's mom was in shock at the news that her baby was having a baby. "Well, I thought, 'Oh my God, there is a kid having a kid,'" said Lupe Galindo. Delaware Didn't "Learn the Lesson" of Schiavo. Confession Of An Ex-Abortionist. I am personally responsible for 75,000 abortions. Thislegitimises my credentials to speak to you with some authority on the issue. I was one of the founders of the National Association for the Repeal of the Abortion Laws (NARAL) in the U.S. in 1968. A truthful poll of opinion then would have found that most Americans were against permissive abortion. Yet within five years we had convinced the U.S. Supreme Court to issue the decision which legalised abortion throughout America in 1973 and produced virtual abortion on demand up to birth. How did we do this? It is important to understand the tactics involved because these tactics have been used throughout the western world with one permutation or another, in order to change abortion law. ... But it doesn't matter. Even though blacks make up only 13% of the population, they make up over 36% of all abortions done in this country. Planned Parenthood's endorsement of Barack Obama reminds me of a quote from Margaret Sanger, founder of Planned Parenthood, on the logistics of how she wanted to wipe out the black population: , "We should hire three or four colored ministers, preferably with social-service backgrounds, and with engaging personalities. The most successful educational approach to the Negro is through a religious appeal. We don't want the word to go out that we want to exterminate the Negro population." ... Adventist "Family" Views Are Similar to U.S. Evangelicals'. Adventists varied on lifestyle issues, as well. Seventh-day Adventists in the survey were split on the issue of abortion, with 26 percent arguing that it was legal in most cases and 29 percent believing it illegal in most cases; the Protestant faith also disagreed, with 31 percent believing it legal in most cases and 30 percent declaring it illegal in most cases. On homosexuality, 67 percent of Seventh-day Adventists surveyed believed it should not be accepted, as opposed to only 23 percent who said that it should be accepted. And, survey results showed 57 percent of Seventh-day Adventists believed stricter environmental laws and regulations would be worth the cost of possible economic setbacks or jobs, overshadowing the 31 percent concerned that laws would hurt the economy or cost too many jobs. ... Obama denies protection for infants of botched abortions. Pro-life blogger Jill Stanek recently wrote a column for WorldNetDaily.com titled "Obama's biggest lie about supporting infanticide." She points out Obama actively opposed the Born Alive Infants Protection Act for three years in the Illinois senate. "He voted against it. He was the sole senator speaking against it on the [Illinois] senate floor [for] two years. And the third year, he held the bill from being considered altogether in committee and killed the bill," Stanek contends. She says Obama's explanation for opposing the Illinois bill does not pass the straight-face test because, as a committee chairman, he blocked the measure's sponsor from adding the federal language protecting Roe vs. Wade. That federal provision says the bill does not deny or add rights to the species Homo sapiens before birth. ... Read More: http://www.onenewsnow.com/Election2008/Default.aspx?id=164320
The Population Control Trap. Mosher says, thanks to years of voluntary birth control, the native European population is dying off. In Europe, all the way from Ireland and Great Britain in the west to European Russia in the East, you've got kind of a voluntary one-child policy where the average family size is a mother, father, and one child...," he explains. Mosher says one has to ask why Europeans do not have more children. "In part, this is what you get when you have a post-Christian, secular society where the emphasis is on me me me and where the government supposedly provides a cradle-to-grave welfare system, so you don't need children to support you in old age," he contends. "There is no practical way for Italy or Spain, I think, to turn around its falling population at this point," adds Mosher. Read more: http://www.onenewsnow.com/Culture/Default.aspx?id=162810
Is Artificial Sweetener Sweet Poison? In October of 2001, my sister started getting very sick. She had stomach spasms and she was having a hard time getting around. Walking was a major chore. It took everything she had just to get out of bed; she was in so much pain. By March 2002, she had undergone several tissue and muscle biopsies and was on 24 various prescription medications. The doctors could not determine what was wrong with her. She was in so much pain, and so sick she just knew she was dying. She put her house, bank accounts, life insurance, etc., in her oldest daughter's name, and made sure that her younger children were to be taken care of. ... Read More? Click on ==>
Man's survival spawns 'Jesse's Law'. The miraculous story of a Gulf War veteran on the verge of death following a serious accident has sparked the Arizona legislature to protect incapacitated patients from hasty decisions designed to accelerate their deaths. Jesse Ramirez made it through a war, but he almost died as the result of not having a living will. Just ten days after a severe car crash, Ramirez' estranged wife ordered his food, water, and antibiotics terminated. He was then transferred to a hospice to die. Gary McCaleb is senior counsel with the Alliance Defense Fund, which helped save Jesse's life. He says Ramirez was within hours of dying when they were able to get his food and water restored. "And within a matter of months, he walked out of the hospital -- and now he's almost fully recovered and living at home," the attorney reports. ... Court affirms law calling unborn 'living human beings'. A federal court ruled against Planned Parenthood and rejected an injunction against a state law requiring doctors to tell women seeking abortions that they may face serious medical conditions and will "terminate the life of a whole, separate, unique, living human being." The court said U.S. Supreme Court rulings allow a state to "use its regulatory authority to require a physician to provide truthful, non-misleading information relevant to a patient's decision to have an abortion, even if that information might also encourage the patient to choose childbirth over abortion." The South Dakota act defines a human being as "an individual living member of the species Homo sapiens, including the unborn human being during the entire embryonic and fetal ages from fertilization to full gestation." ... A Posthumous Interview by Tim Russert. When I was alive I loved to eat. As a child I ate hearty: the butcher, I recall, had a display case that perfectly evoked Buffalo's (New York) version of multiculturalism and good health, full of pork neck bone, smoked pork neck bone, jellied tongue, Polish bacon, slab bacon, double smoked hunter bacon, German-style wieners, Italian sausage, pork roll sausage, hot or mild beef sausage, barley sausage, beer sausage, double smoked hunter bacon . . . chopped ham, smoked hocks, turkey gizzards, smoked turkey parts, chicken feet, chicken liver, chicken fat, fresh ox tails, and ribs of every type. Boy did I like to eat at those tailgates. I used to fly in wings, Buffalo wings, from Frank and Teresa's in Buffalo because people in Boston couldn't do a good wing. I miss my diet coke and licorice, "the breakfast of champions." It was my secret for staying up all night and alert. McDougall: And you say no one has figured out why you died of a heart attack? ... Cure for Parkinson's right under their noses. Mackay-Sim's team had developed a technique that extracts stem-cells from the olfactory nerves of patients in a harmless ten-minute procedure. Unlike unethical embryonic stem-cells - which have yielded no cures despite the investment of hundreds of millions of research dollars - these stem-cells from a patient's nose do not develop into tumours, are compatible with a patient's immune system and therefore do not require dangerous immuno-suppressant drugs. Mackay-Sim's latest discovery in the little-recognized field of adult stem-cell research is the work of the National Centre for Adult Stem Cell Research, part of Griffith University's Eskitis Institute for Cell and Molecular Therapies. ... Stephanopoulos Asked to Correct Reporting of Terri Schiavo's Medical Condition. TAMPA, Fla., Nov. 19 /Standard Newswire/ -- Yesterday on This Week, George Stephanopoulos, in an interview with Senator Fred Thompson, commented that Terri Schiavo's autopsy proved she was "brain dead." The New York Times also reported on this interview, repeating that the autopsy proved Terri was "brain dead." This is patently false and Terri's family is requesting that the media immediately stop using this offensive and inaccurate expression to describe her condition. Terri's brother, Bobby Schindler, says "Brain death is an authentic diagnosis, not some catch phrase that should be loosely used based upon a 'summary of widespread response' or opinions that have been written about my sister. We are requesting that the media take a few minutes to research the facts regarding Terri's case and, more importantly, her condition. In doing so they would learn that not one doctor ever diagnosed Terri as being 'brain-dead.' This includes those who wrote her autopsy report. All of this information is easily available and accessible." ... Read more: http://www.standardnewswire.com/news/887931879.html
Teenager died two weeks after abortion. A TEENAGE Christian who had an abortion to avoid conflict with her Muslim boyfriends family died a fortnight after the procedure, an inquest heard today. After terminating the pregnancy at six weeks, A-level student Manon Jones, 18, became increasingly ill and in the days following the procedure told family members she felt light-headed and was bleeding heavily. Miss Jones, who studied and lived in Bristol, returned home alone from a holiday abroad as her condition deteriorated, the inquest heard. British mum overjoyed miracle baby survived abortion. LONDON - A British baby has now become a cause celebre for his mother and pro-life advocates in the United Kingdom for miraculously defying twin death sentences from abortion and genetics. Finley Crampton's birth has overwhelmed his mother, Jodie Percival, who is happy that in the end her baby beat the enormous odds against him to be born a healthy boy. Percival, 25, had decided to abort baby Finley at 8 weeks, because she carries a gene which triggers multicystic dysplastic kidney (MCDK) - a condition where cysts grow on the kidneys of an unborn baby. The condition is fatal when it affects both kidneys; however patients who have MCDK in one kidney can live normal lives, provided the other is healthy. ... Drug Companies Are Killing You Legally. The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) reported that drug overdoses killed 33,000 people in 2005, second only to car accidents in the category of accidental deaths. In 1999, the number was 20,000, and in 1990, 10,000 died. As this excellent commentary in Better Body Journal points out, the huge increase in people dying is not because of a heroin or crack epidemic. These deaths are largely due to prescription drugs. Consider that 46 percent of Americans take at least one prescription pill daily. Are these drugs really solving all your problems? If so, then why is the pharmaceutical industry growing every single year, with some of the biggest profit margins of any industry? ... To Drink, or Not to Drink. THE SHARING OF A GLASS OF WINE has long been considered sociable and sophisticated. In recent years, however, research has suggested that moderate drinking may also be good for you! Can this be true? Or could the widely publicized benefits of a daily glass of wine or a can of beer be largely the product of hype? Is it possible that the advice to drink in moderation--"for your health"--is all a mistake? It all started some 18 years ago with the description of the "French Paradox." Why, some scientists wondered, did the French have so few heart attacks when they were not exactly committed to enthusiastic exercise and they ate a diet high in both cholesterol and fat? The scientists concluded that this had to do with the type of fat (monounsaturated olive oil) that the French ate, and the fact that they drank alcohol daily, often in the form of red wine. ... The Adventist Drug Problem. BELIEVERS WHO JOIN THE FELLOWSHIP of the Seventh-day Adventist Church pledge their agreement with certain fundamental beliefs, including this statement: "Since alcoholic beverages, tobacco, and the irresponsible use of drugs and narcotics are harmful to our bodies, we are to abstain from them as well." Naturally enough, drunkenness, tobacco use, marijuana smoking, and cocaine sniffing are uncommon among members in good and regular standing. Yet Seventh-day Adventists do have a "drug problem," one I see evidence of almost every day as a physician who treats many Adventist patients. The real Adventist "drug problem" is the confusion shared by many Adventists about drugs, and particularly how to apply Ellen White's counsels about their use. ... Silver Spring, MarylandIn support of World No Tobacco Day on May 31, the Adventist Development and Relief Agency (ADRA) is joining the World Health Organization (WHO) in calling for a total ban on the marketing, advertising, promotion, and sponsorship of tobacco and tobacco-related products. Love Song to the Son I Never Knew. It all began in 1981, I was dating an incredible girl, and we planned to eventually marry. We had been together over a year, and we were crazy in love. Then one September day she approached me with tears in her eyes and told me she was pregnant. You could have knocked me over with a feather. After the shock wore off, I suggested we get married and start our family. I was stunned when she refused. Is Senator Barack Obama Pro-life? In his interview with Fox News Cris Wallace, Senator Obama stated that he would have voted for the partial birth abortion ban had it had a provision for saving the life of the mother. I am an independent voter, and have not yet decided who to vote for. I do like Obama; he is an eloquent speaker and he sounded like he was pro-life, but his position on abortion is not clear to me. Why would he support the partial birth abortion whose goal is the killing of a baby? If he is truly concerned about saving the life of the mother, then we already have a well known delivery method designed for saving the life of both the mother and the baby: It is called Cesarean Section! Can someone clarify this for me? I did write a letter to Obama and another to Cris Wallace, but have not received a response yet! Read more? Click here: ==>

Rob Schenck, president of the conservative National Clergy Council, says the event last night reaffirmed that neither Obama nor Clinton are "in the most important ways" compatible with the core beliefs of Evangelicals or core convictions of Christian traditionalists of any kind. "There was no room in either the thinking of Hillary Clinton or Barack Obama for anyone who truly believes that all human life is precious at all stages of development from conception until natural death," explains Schneck. Big rise in Italian doctors refusing to perform abortions. ROME (AFP) Nearly 70 percent of Italian gynecologists now refuse to perform abortions on moral grounds and the number is increasing, a report by the country's ministry of health said Tuesday. Abortion was legalised in 1978 in Italy but pressure from the Vatican -- which is strongly opposed to abortion -- enabled doctors to claim a "conscientious objection" clause and refuse to carry out terminations. Between 2003 and 2007 the number of gynecologists claiming the conscience clause to avoid carrying out abortions rose from 58.7 percent to 69.2 percent, according to the report. For anesthetists helping in abortions, the figure of those refusing to participate rose from 45.7 percent to 50.4 percent. "In the south, this increase is even more pronounced and in certain areas the rate has almost doubled," the report adds. In Campania, the region around Naples, the proportion of gynecologists refusing to carry out the procedure reached 83 percent, and in Sicily 84.2 percent. ... Reaction to Obama -- babies are God's gift, not a 'punishment'. Senator Obama (D-Illinois) was giving his opinion on abstinence-only education at a recent town hall meeting in Johnstown, Pennsylvania, when he said: "Look, I got two daughters -- nine years old and six years old. I am going to teach them first about values and morals, but if they make a mistake, I don't want them punished with a baby. I don't want them punished with an STD at age 16." Punished With a Baby? "... And last week's mistake about his daughters and hypothetical pregnancy issues showed just how extreme the man is. The line was quick - a throwaway, actually - but Sen. Obama said that he would never want his own daughter, in the event of a 'crisis pregnancy', to be 'punished with a baby.' I guess 'crisis pregnancy' is one of those convenient Planned Parenthood-type terms that make people feel more comfortable about aborting a baby. Perhaps I'm just a little naive in believing that there's nothing crisis-like about bringing an innocent, beautiful baby into the world, even through an unplanned pregnancy. Obama's Greatest Regret. CLEVELAND (BP)--Democratic presidential candidate and U.S. Sen. Some students did not like what they saw. "They're like, 'Ewww, that's gross, why do we have to see that?' " said eighth-grader Xhynah Cabugao. "Everybody was kind of disgusted." When some students asked why they had to watch, Xhynah said, the teacher told them to avert their eyes if they didn't want to see it. Yang, who is not a tenured teacher, could not be reached for comment. ... Read more: http://origin.mercurynews.com/valley/ci_8244797
Wine Consumption & the Bible. The Bible points to abstinence as a better and more excellent way. Proverbs 23:31, 32 does not simply discourage the use of fermented wine, but counsels the individual to stay away from it: Do not gaze at wine when it is red, when it sparkles in the cup, when it goes down smoothly! In the end it bites like a snake and poisons like a viper (NIV). It is that biblical ideal that Adventists support and promote in a world in which the damaging effects of alcoholism are painfully well known. ... Planned Parenthood challenges abortion ballot proposal. JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (AP) — Planned Parenthood sought Monday to strike down a Missouri ballot proposal by claiming that its new requirements for abortion providers would make almost all abortions illegal. A proposal targeted for the November 2008 ballot would make it an act of “medical negligence” to perform or refer someone for an abortion without first determining it is warranted to prevent death, serious injury or other health risks from the pregnancy. The proposal lays out no criminal penalties. Rather, it would let a woman who later regrets an abortion sue the doctors or nurses on allegations they failed to screen her for risk factors, evaluate whether she was coerced into having the abortion or allow her 48 hours to reflect upon the information. ... Can Eating Pork and Shellfish Destroy Your Health? This topic is one that some will disagree with, others may not want to hear, or in some cases with Christians, they will take offense with because they believe Jesus doesn’t care what we eat. I’m not trying to be legalistic when it comes to why we should avoid pork and shellfish. FDA Sleeps While Common Medications Poison the Elderly. The use of drugs as a primary tool of health care in our society is a hundred-billion-dollar-a-year scam, as well as a direct and dire danger to the health of anyone taking almost any medication for any period of time. On top of that, American citizens are being raped by excessive drug prices compared to any other country in the world. It is an acknowledged fact that the FDA has almost no clue of the actual risks of commonly used drugs on the market today and has totally failed the American public on post-market safety of drugs. Drug companies do everything in their power to suppress risk information and paint a false picture of benefits – even when they know their drugs needlessly kill or injure. ... What Women Want: Not Reproductive Oppression. Pat then went right to the heart of the "reproductive health care" controversy. " "If I could provide a way for you to have fewer children, or no more children, or to not be pregnant if you are pregnant, would you be interested?" she asked them. The atmosphere in the room, pleasant up to that point, instantly turned chilly. The women whispered among themselves, shooting Pat looks that were no longer friendly. Then one woman, her voice rising in indignation, spoke for all: "Sabe nada, estupida Americana!" Up to this point in the interview, Pat had been relying on translators to help with her halting Spanish, but this stinging barb came through loud and clear: "You understand nothing, stupid American!" Scientists Bypass Need for Embryo to Get Stem Cells. Two teams of scientists reported yesterday that they had turned human skin cells into what appear to be embryonic stem cells without having to make or destroy an embryo — a feat that could quell the ethical debate troubling the field. All they had to do, the scientists said, was add four genes. The genes reprogrammed the chromosomes of the skin cells, making the cells into blank slates that should be able to turn into any of the 220 cell types of the human body, be it heart, brain, blood or bone. ... Right to Life of Unborn is Debated at High Level in UN. NEW YORK November 16, 2007 (C-FAM.org) – Perhaps for the first time ever, a debate about protecting the unborn child from abortion erupted in the UN Third Committee of the General Assembly yesterday. Led by mostly Muslim states, the effort was at least partly an attempt to strike at the efforts of the European Union-led resolution condemning the death penalty. Several sponsors of the death penalty resolution argued that the right to life amendments were not in keeping with the main focus of the text and that they were merely introduced to sow confusion and division. The representative of Egypt stated that since the resolution was aimed at respecting life, it was appropriate to widen the scope to include protection of innocent human life. ... Ron Paul on Abortion. Ron Paul is a physician who has delivered more than 4,000 babies. He not only opposes federal funding of embryonic stem cell research and partial-birth abortion, he is against abortion itself. As he himself has said: In 40 years of medical practice, I never once considered performing an abortion, nor did I ever find abortion necessary to save the life of a pregnant woman. In Congress, I have authored legislation that seeks to define life as beginning at conception, H.R. 1094. I am also the prime sponsor of H.R. 300, which would negate the effect of Roe v Wade by removing the ability of federal courts to interfere with state legislation to protect life. This is a practical, direct approach to ending federal court tyranny which threatens our constitutional republic and has caused the deaths of 45 million of the unborn. The despondent mother, Rebecca Jones, agreed to terminate Gabriel to save his twin brother, Ieuan. First doctors attempted to sever his umbilical cord, but according to published reports, the cord proved too strong. So they halved Jones' placenta to allow Gabriel to die without harm to Ieuan. Are abortion and the Holocaust comparable? Fact: Many of the death camp experiments were run by respected German scientists researching major health threats of the day, such as typhus and hypothermia. Much of the data was either captured and utilized by the Allies or was quietly published in German medical journals in the post-war years, sometimes by the very doctors who had assisted in the prison camp experiments. Don’t Feed the Hand that Bites You. It is also common for pro-lifers to attack abortion by saying we may have aborted the next Beethoven, or Mother Teresa, or the doctor who would have discovered a cure for cancer. While this sentiment is understandable, it is inconsistent with the pro-life position. The unborn child who might grow up to cure cancer has no more right to life than the unborn child who will spend his life on welfare and living under bridges. The “aborted Beethoven” argument suggests that it is a bigger tragedy to kill Baby A than Baby B because Baby A is more valuable to society. Clearly, that is not what the pro-lifer meant to say, but that is certainly what the listener might conclude. Brazilian baby with anencephaly now ten months old. Rio de Janeiro, Sep 26, 2007 / 12:14 pm (CNA).- Little Marcela de Jesus Galante Ferrerira continues to surprise the world. She is now ten months old despite doctors’ predictions that she would die soon after being born. She suffers from anencephaly, a birth defect in which the brain does not develop. Since her birth Marcela has become a symbol of the pro-life movement in a country that is debating allowing abortion in such cases. Although babies with anencephaly tend to die shortly after birth and only in rare cases live beyond three months, Marcela has broken a world record with her ten months of life. ... Tobacco 'Kills' But Abortion Only 'Legal'. A columnist from a Chicago suburban paper has equated smoking to abortion in order to explain away her support of an abortion mill struggling to open in Aurora, Illinois. Saying that since smoking is legal, and it “kills” people, why shouldn't abortion be legal, we find her reasoning is strained and absurd. If there’s a more ridiculous comparison out there, I'd like to see it. Following her tortured logic, we should outlaw everything that might kill someone if we also outlaw abortion -- which WILL kill someone. ... Brownback Proposes Ultrasound before Abortion. A woman would have to undergo an ultrasound and be given the option to view the images before receiving an abortion, under a proposal from Kansas Senator Sam Brownback. The Republican presidential hopeful introduced the Ultrasound Informed Consent Act Thursday. It would require a doctor perform an ultrasound and then share the results with the woman before performing an abortion. “It is necessary and right to provide a woman seeking an abortion with all the available information so that she may make the most informed decision possible,” Brownback said in a statement. “The Ultrasound ... Dramatic & Alarming Discoveries Connected with my Doctoral Dissertation. I have some dramatic news to share with you related to the SDA Forum and what I have discovered as a result of the investigation connected with my doctoral dissertation, which was recently finalized and approved by the doctoral dissertation committee at the Andrew Jackson University. The Vatican Rules on Nutrition & Hydration. VATICAN CITY, SEPT. 14, 2007 (Zenit.org) - The Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith clarified that the administration of nutrition and hydration to people in the so-called vegetative state is, with rare exceptions, morally obligatory. The document and accompanying note, released today and approved by Benedict XVI, came as an answer to questions presented to the Vatican by the U.S. bishops in 2005. The questions were sent just months after Florida woman Terri Schiavo, who was living in a vegetative state after having sustained brain-damage, died 13 days after having her feeding tube removed. ... Russian Demographic Situation Worsening – Abortions Outstrip Births. MOSCOW, August 24, 2005 (LifeSiteNews.com) – Financial pressures are pushing Russian women to abortion at a much higher rate than was previously thought. For the first time, Russian abortions have exceeded births and the rate shows no sign of slowing in the perennially unstable Russian economy. The economic situation for most in Russia is dire, and, says Vladimir Kulakov, vice president of the Russian Academy of Medical Sciences, the birth of a first child can push young couples into poverty. With a population half the size of the US, in 2004, Russian women had 24% more abortions than their American counterparts. ... Full story: http://www.lifesite.net/ldn/2005/aug/05082404.html
Current Medical Euthanasia and Eugenic Abortion Practices Echo Nazi Past. BERLIN, October 2, 2003 (LifeSiteNews.com) - Recent research into the Nazi euthanasia programme has shown that as many as 200,000 institutionalized patients were killed beginning in 1939 before the instigation of the Jewish Holocaust. Germany's Federal Archive released a report Tuesday revealing new evidence that doctors and other hospital staff used gas, drugs or starvation to kill the disabled patients as part of Hitler's programme of racial purification. ... Similarly eugenic abortions are spoken of as "curing diseases" and at times 'merciful' procedures. The link between the Nazi eugenics movement and the abortion movement is more than ideological. Planned Parenthood foundress Margaret Sanger shared her eugenic ideals with the Nazi's in the early 1930s. ... Full story: http://www.lifesite.net/ldn/2003/oct/03100208.html
Mother Theresa on Abortion. ... One was the speech she had given in February at the National Prayer Breakfast in Washington, DC. She spoke in the presence of President and Mrs. Clinton and Vice-President and Mrs. Gore. It was an unforgettable moment, as this short, humble woman proclaimed to those in power: "...If we accept that a mother can kill even her own child, how can we tell other people not to kill one another?...Any country that accepts abortion is not teaching its people to love, but to use any violence to get what they want. This is why the greatest destroyer of love and peace is abortion." ... Read more ==>
Judge in abortion case blocks mega-clinic opening. A federal judge has ruled a multi-million dollar abortion facility built by Planned Parenthood in the Chicago suburb of Aurora cannot open tomorrow as abortionists had demanded. The issue involves the deception Planned Parenthood engaged in with the city during the construction of the building, which was outed as an abortion plant only when a pro-life construction worker began questioning the multiple surgical rooms in combination with bulletproof glass windows. Who is an Unbeliever? In your article entitled "Mixed Marriages" you clarify that Paul's passage found in 2 Cor. 6:14 is not limited to marriage with unbelievers. Please consider the following scenario: A Seventh-day Adventist law student is planning to join a Southern Baptist as a law partner after graduation. The Foolish Farmer. If a farmer were to spread the seeds, and then proceeded to pull out the growing wheat, arguing at the same time that he actually enjoyed spreading the seeds but was not interested in the harvest, we would agree that said individual has lost his mind. The Limits of Human Life. If human life is sacred and if we have the duty to protect it, then it follows that it is essential for us to know the precise limits of human life, otherwise we may be unable to do what the Lord expects from us. Would those agents be able to perform their duty? ... Read more ==>
Adventist's Position on Abortion. I received from Hugo Schmidt a copy of a question he submitted to the head of the Adventist Religious Liberty Department, and the response he received from him which confirms what elsewhere I have stated regarding our Adventist's position on abortion, as well as what my research connected with my doctoral dissertation is confirming. Can the elect become the victims of deception? The topic we had debated was not the origin of heaven and earth and life on earth, but rather the origin of human life inside the womb. ... Read more ==>
