What About the Islamic
Caricature Controversy?

The topic of how to deal with the caricatures portraying the prophet os Islam and poking fun on his character represents a serious subject which deserves careful consideration. I received the following question dealing with this controversial matter from one of the SDA Forum readers:
"What do you think about Islam caricatures?"

The cartoon controversy should be viewed within its proper perpective. I would suggest the following guidelines:
A. Westerners who respect their Golden Rule, should refrain from offending members of other religious persuations. If we want our sacred objects to be treated with respect, if follows that we need to treat with the proper respect that of others. Nothing is gained by offending those who already hate our guts!
B. If Moslems consider that depicting their prophet is offensive to their religion, then they should refrain from engaging in such behavior, but they have no right to impose their moral or religious values on others whose sacred objects might differ from theirs, much less by the use of violence and threats.
C. If they consider the publications of said cartoons offensive, they have to remember that the following acts by Moslem extremists are one hundred times more offensive to others: The unprovoked slaughter of 3,000 innocent civilians on 9/11 on American soil, the sponsorship of terrorism by the devout followers of Islam, the decapitation of innocent members of the free press, and the call for the murder of members of other religions whom the extremists among them label as infidels.
I could say more, but it's bedtime, which is also a sacred ritual demanded by my personal religion!
